These Companies Hire Telephone Interpreters to Work From Home

Knowing how to speak and write in multiple languages is an asset in today’s society. Many companies pay employees who are bilingual more money because they understand the importance of knowing how to communicate in more than one language.

If you’re bilingual and can communicate fluently in more than one language, both verbally and in writing, then working from home as a telephone interpreter may be the perfect job for you.

What is a Telephone Interpreter?

Telephone interpreters assist customers by being the liaison between the customer and a company.

An example of that could be a customer who needs to speak to a customer service representative at their bank. The customer doesn’t speak or understand English very well, so the customer service representative can get an interpreter on the phone to translate. The interpreter is able to tell the customer service representative what the customer is saying and tells the customer what the CSR is saying, thereby assisting the customer with their needs.

Education and Skills Needed

You must have at least a high school diploma or a GED.

You must be proficient in English and at least 1 other language both in writing and verbally.

You must have excellent communication skills, excellent listening skills, and excellent multi-tasking skills.

Equipment Needed

Since this job involves being on the telephone, you’ll need to have a quiet work area that is free from distractions and outside noise.
